Most changes only touch one part of a prototype. Scope lets you tell Phluffle exactly which part: one screen, or one button, card or section. It's faster and usually uses fewer credits, and every other screen stays exactly as it was.
Why scope a prompt
Without a scope, a prompt can change any screen. Phluffle tries to keep everything you didn't mention as it was, but it still works on the whole prototype. With a scope:
- Only the chosen screen changes. Other screens stay exactly the same.
- It's quicker, because Phluffle rewrites one screen instead of the whole prototype.
- It usually costs less, because there's less work to do. Credits are based on what the AI actually uses. See Plans and credits.
Change one screen
- Open the screen you want to change. Click it in the screen strip under the preview, or click through to it.
- Click Scope next to the prompt box.
- Under What should change?, choose Only {screen} ("Faster and cheaper; other screens stay exactly the same").
- A chip appears above the prompt box, like Only Profile screen, and the box asks "What should change on Profile?".
- Type your change and press ⌘/Ctrl + Enter.
Change one element
- Click Scope, then Pick an element… ("Click a button, card or section in the preview").
- A banner says Click an element in the preview. Click the button, card, section or other part you want to change. To back out, click Cancel or press Esc.
- The chip shows what you picked, and the box asks "What should change about this {element}?".
- Type your change and send it.
Phluffle changes that element, and only what's needed around it, on its screen.
Tip Element scope is great for things like "make this card show the price and a rating" or "turn this button into a dropdown with three options".
Go back to the whole prototype
Click the × on the chip, or open Scope and choose Whole prototype ("Any screen can change").
Clicking + Add screen at the end of the screen strip also switches back to the whole prototype and starts your prompt with "Add a new screen: ". That's because a new screen usually needs changes to the navigation on other screens too.
See what a prompt was scoped to
In the chat, prompts you sent with a scope show an Only … tag, so you can see later which screen or element each change was limited to. As with any prompt, each one makes a new version. See Versions, restore and retry.
When not to use Scope
- Adding or removing screens, or changing navigation that appears on every screen. Use the whole prototype.
- Restyling everything, like a new colour scheme. Use the whole prototype, or set up design references.
- Tiny tweaks to text, colours, spacing or images. Use Visual Edit instead: you change them by hand and it uses no credits.
- Changes to several existing screens at once. You can plan them together on the Canvas with Phlow, or send one scoped prompt per screen.
